Welcome to The Buttercup Floral & Gifts on the Web!
The Buttercup Floral and Gifts was bought on June 1,
1999 by Mike and Karen Schmitz. Over the last 10 years, many changes have
been made. Walls were removed to create more work space, a spacious walk-in
cooler was installed and the adjoining building (formally F&F Ins) was
purchased. The extra room created not only more display areas, but an office,
a playroom, and a storage room.
This really is an extended family business. Most of the
Knight family is involved in some capacity of the business. They are involved
in deliveries, designing, and customer service when they are needed and
called. Danielle's family has also stepped into these positions when help is
needed.
Also in the last 10 years, many high school students
have been employed, 3 part-time employees have went on to Floriculture at
Kirkwood, and two children were "born into" the business. Danielle (Hackbarth)
Thurn, is employed as a full-time florist. She has been with The Buttercup
Floral since 2001. Danielle has her Floriculture and Horticulture diplomas
from Kirkwood Community College. Occasionally two previous employees still
help out when needed; Kely Hemann, who also has her Floriculture diploma,
started in 1999 and Andrea Worsham, who started in 2002.
Angie Staner has created a website for The Buttercup to
showcase some of our items. Check it out at

The newest change at The Buttercup includes a new "kids"
room that MacKenzie, Alexandria, and friends have named "Kids Klub." This room
features items specifically geared toward 18 and younger. They not only wanted
a place in which they could "work," they wanted a place to get birthday
presents, fun items for themselves, and display and sell some of their own
creations. Items include Pillow Pets, fancy pens, wallets, Kid Kouture Hats,
Headbands and Clips www.kidkouture.com , books, backpacks, baby quilts, craft kits, footballs,
room decor, and the items are always changing and growing. The girls really
wanted a way to make money for 'charity," so a portion of all the proceeds go
towards a charity of their choice. 100% of their handmade items go to this
charity.
